A Dream Realised

Since I was a young girl I’ve always loved dressing well, even though the financial possibilities at the start of the ’60s were scant.

As the years passed the desire to surround myself with beautiful things –
clothes, accessories, shoes – remained, becoming ever greater. My mother, who like every parent, loved and encouraged her children, said to me “I’m sure that one day this wish of yours will come true”.

For many years I set this desire to one side and did a job I disliked, until, as I looked out of the window at home in Via Solari, the “to let” sign of a shop across the road caught my eye.

At that the unfulfilled desire took hold again. I wondered over and over how to do it, but how could I have realised that dream without financial assistance?

Once again I had the good fortune that someone believed in me; my mother-in-law, who gave me financial assistance to realise my desire.
I began training myself for window dressing, laying out the few acquisitions I’d made before starting out selling to the public on the table at home.

On the 13th of December 1969 I opened the doors to my shop and to my amazement saw long line of people waiting outside. It all began from that moment and I still ask myself today whether it was just a case of luck or down to my determination to make it.

During the magical years of the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s people from the most renowned fashion labels came to my shop, allowing me to build up a loyal clientele which has followed and appreciated my work over all these years.
As the years passed I opened other outlets but the shop which has given me the most satisfaction and joy is the first, which I still oversee today with the same love I had that opening day.
